Pictures of Christmas
16th December 2011
We have been sent many photos of the snow round The Alps and the Xmas scenes across the mountains. Do send us in your Xmas photos if you want to add the collection. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Christmas in the mountains is always a pretty good place to be with ski demonstrations, torchlit descents and firework displays.
Sometimes all three take place at the same time as in Winter Park in Colorado on Christmas Eve.
Earlier in December in the USA there was a festive atmosphere in the east coast resort of Sunday River where hundreds of people dressed up as Father Christmas for charity.
This one of a blow-up santa comes from outside a chemist shop in Switzerland.
Just before the huge snowfalls in the Alps the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana sent over a photo of its Xmas Tree in the village.
One PlanetSKI reader who is stuck in the UK sent us the picture below of Sheen woods in South West London…… though he admits it comes form last year, but has put him in the mood for Xmas anyway.
The small Ausutrian city of Rattenberg, located at the entrance to the Alpbach valley, is the country’s smallest city with a population of 439.
“The medieval town of Rattenberg is home to one of the most beautiful Christmas Markets, bringing back memories of Christmases of old and a sure way of getting you in the festive mood!” said the reader who sent it in.
Across Switzelrand there are dozens of dozens of Xmas markets – it is something of a tradition in the country.
One of the biggest and most famous is at Montreux, on the shores of Lac Leman, and our content editor visited it a couple of winters ago.
In Chamonix the rep from Crystal, Tina, sent us in this picture as the snow began to fall earlier in the month.
While back in the Crystal UK head office the product director, Ian Davis, had his desk in the festve mood though admits the photo was aken the morning after the office party.
In Les Gets the picture may not exaclty be a Christmas one, but it is a festive scene.
Over in Verbier the main Christmas tree in the Place Central gets battered by the recent storm.
While back across the Atlantic in North America Father Christmas is now being used for a bit of promotional work at Sunday River on the east coast of the USA.
