71 INDOOR SNOW CENTRES
23rd August 2017
China’s ski revolution; Dubai’s penguins in the desert; skiing is growing in unexpected countries & it’s much to do with indoor ski centres.
Four new indoor snow centres have opened in the past year.
There are now indoor ski centres in Africa and Vietnam, as well as the world’s largest which has recently opened in China.
The Wanda Ski Park is China’s 10th ski centre and is found in the city of Harbin in the northeast.
It boasts the world’s largest indoor area with six slopes, complete with its own piste map.
Another is under construction in the USA, and then there’s the more surprising locations of standing indoor snow centres in Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia’s indoor ski centre has drawn much attention due to it allowing both men and women to share the slope in a country that otherwise encourages segregation of sexes in leisure pursuits.

World Indoor Snow Centres Guide 2017 is a report by the expert on indoor ski areas, Patrick Thorne.
“The incredible new indoor ski centre in China and the first facility to open in Africa, in Egypt, are great news but I get equally excited from all the amazing things that indoor snow centres bring.
“In Europe, centres have spent the past year putting thousands of solar panels on their vast roofs to be environment-friendly.”
Indoor centres are planned for Paris (FRA), Antwerp (BEL) it is reported.
