An unlikely place?

Cowboys, wildlife watchers, freeriders, dude ranchers and so on are expected visitors to the resort located real close to the national parks of Yellowstone & Grand Teton.

Gathered for the annual meeting in Jackson this week are the world’s top bankers.

Held each year here, it strikes us as a strange place for these big dogs, 2,000 miles west of Washington DC.

Respect, though – there may be no better place…

What goes on during the speeches made will be scrutinised ‘for hints on monetary policy and the outlook for interest rates,’ the BBC reports.

Bank of England deputy governor for monetary policy, Ben Broadbent, will be in attendance at PlanetSKI’s top resort, as will US Federal Reserve chair, Janet Yellen, and European Central Bank president Mario Draghi, both speaking.

So it’s serious.

And PlanetSKI had just as important a date there earlier this year.

PlanetSKI’s editor getting into the spirit

Read more here of our thoughts on the place and the life changing winter experience in Jackson – I told you it was a big deal…

Rumour has it:

The BBC reports that Jackson was initially chosen way back when the conference started in 1978.

Due to its location in the middle of the national park and the areas renown for fly fishing, it was to appeal to the then-Federal Reserve chair, Paul Volcker, who was keen on the sport.

The attractive thing about it is knowing how down to earth and genuinely cool the locals and Jackson residents are, they probably don’t bother about the event, focussing on what we consider the more important topics of season and sport.

Here’s where the big bankers’ll be staying:

Our turn now…
