CRYSTAL ON WATER
7th September 2017
Crystal Ski Holidays entered two sailing teams in the Solent Challenge 2017 – an event for Disability Snowsport UK off Portsmouth coast. NEW
The fundraising event took place on 31st August under perfect weather conditions with the HMS Queen Elizabeth looking over.
15 yachts – each with a team of 10 – set sail in the charity competition.
Crystal’s two teams were the Supersailors and The Reely Nauti Crew.
Sir Steve Redgrave also participated in a team of British Association of Snowsport Instructors (BASI) sailors.
The day started with a crash course in sailing before setting sail on the Sunsail 40-foot yachts.
Each crew mate had a task from skipper, first mate, to sail hoist or winch, and help balance the boat and steer.
During the second match there was a man overboard from a competitor boat and a collision (or was there?) with a Doom Bar boat.
The “highpoint of the day”, one Crystal participant commented, was the two huge container ships the regatta was in the way of.
The Crystal teams raised £3,600 for the charity, coming in 7th and 8th position.
DSUK will be running the challenge again in 2018.
