RIDING A CHAIRLIFT WITH A MUSICAL STAR
21st September 2017
Skiers and snowboarders in Ischgl will find themselves riding up the mountain in the company of a musical superstar next winter. NEW
A new six-seater has chairs dedicated to one of the international stars who have played the resort’s Top Of The Mountain concerts.
The images of the entertainers are emblazoned across the backs of the chairs on the new €12m Palinkopf chair.
Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Lionel Richie and Elton John are just some of the celebrities depicted.
Here at PlanetSKI we watched Robbie Williams do his stuff a few years back.
The lift is also, not surprisngly, a pampering experience.
It has padded and heated upholstered seats, weather hoods and safety lock bars.
It takes just under six minutes to travel 1,577m and ascend 440m to the Palinkopf mountain at 2,853m.
It can carry 2,800 people per hour.
The old 4-seater lift it replaces has been sold on to a resort in Finland.
Also new for 2017/18 is the Viderböden reservoir, which replaces the Idalp reservoir.
It has a cubic capacity of 52,000m as opposed to the 32,000 of the Idalp lake.
“It is essential to support Ischgl’s impressive snow-making facility which boasts 1,100 snow cannons and lances,” said a statement from the resort.
Ischgl is a firm favourite of PlanetSKI, and not just for the concerts and après.
We ended last winter in the resort on the Ellis Brigham ski tests.
And we were back in the summer too.
For a spot of Michelin starred food:
We will definitely be back in March to explore the slopes of neighbouring Galtur and hope to swing by earlier in the season.
Where we will of course be taking a chairlift with some musical superstars.
