WHY YOU SHOULD SKI IN MARCH
12th February 2019
Here are 5 reasons why March is the month to get in your turns, considering the weather, cost and company.
March skiing is often labelled ‘late season’.
However, the pros at Skiworld are here to tell you why March is probably the month of the season “to revel in the joys of ski seasons at the peak of their powers”.
March is historically the snowiest month in many ski resorts in the Northern hemisphere.
Remember, the snow doesn’t melt just as the ski lifts close in April.
So, down to it.
5 reasons why March is best:
1. Ski days are longer in March
From the darkest of days – the Winter Solstice on 22nd December 22nd – the Northern Hemisphere gets more and more sunlight.
In Alpine regions, the appearance of the sun earlier and later in the day is incredibly energising.
By March you’re spoilt by the wonderful evening Alpenglow on the neighbouring mountain ranges.
That’s after basking in the glorious sunshine at lunch and then après bars on sun terraces after the lifts close.
This is the time of year that ski holidays were made for!
2. Get a great suntan on your ski holiday
Whether it’s a goggle tan (or panda-eyes) or t-shirts at lunch for a farmer tan.
They’re priceless souvenirs.
3. The best ski conditions occur in March
More frequent snow days.
More intense snowfall.
Higher volume of snow.
More bluebird powder days.
Snowy nights and sunny days.
– These are the elements many of us look for when deciding where and when to go skiing.
And the ‘holy grail’ that ties them all together?
It’s when these elements seem to align more frequently in many of ski resorts.
March conditions are top
4. Quieter slopes than other times of the season
Except for the occasional early Easter, March is the only month of the ski season which doesn’t entertain a UK school holiday.
There’s more space on the slopes, shorter lift-lines and less queueing for lunch.
5. Some of the best ski holiday deals going
March has its fair share of holiday deals during March.
Book really early and take advantage of a Ski-All-In Deal.
Or wait for and book a’ Last Minute Ski Deal’.
Either way, March dates feature heavily.
A basic rule of thumb is the later in March you go, the better the deal.
