Delta has brought forward its timings so it will run over Christmas and New Year. PlanetSKI reports.

It was going to be starting in early January 2020 but we understand Delta will now start its service from Heathrow on December 19th.

The timetables have not been loaded onto the computer systems but we have been assured they will be shortly.

Salt Lake City International Airport has 10 ski and snowboard resorts that are less than an hour’s drive.

All are within a short distance of each other and it is more like a European set up.

The merger of Canyons and Park City in the 2016/17 season created an area comparable in size to some European ski areas and it is simple to drive between the other resorts.

Here at PlanetSKI we reported exclusively on the possible flight from Heathrow to Salt Lake City earlier.

And we confirmed it with full details of the skiing available.

Utah has a good snow record and its main resorts are Park City, Deer Valley, Snowbird, Alta, Snowbasin and Powder Mountain.

Then there are the smaller ones of Brighton, Solitude and Sundance.

Utah’s 14 resorts receive over 13m of desert dry snow each winter.

The new direct route is good news for those of us that like skiing and snowboarding in North America.

The British operators that offer the American resorts have given the news a welcome thumbs up.

“This is great news for skiers or snowboarders who love North America or are thinking about experiencing the US for the first time this winter,” said the Iglu Ski Sales Manager, Philip Wright.

“Myself and many of the Iglu team have visited Park City and the surrounding resorts and as the largest ski agent in the UK, we have access to exclusive deals in all the top hotels in all of the nine ski resorts within one hour drive of Salt Lake City.

“Skiers love a short transfer and it doesn’t get much shorter than this!”

7 nights from 11th January from £1599 pp. It inncludes flights, transfers & room only basis at Park City Peaks Hotel. Exclusive Iglu Ski low deposit from £75 pp – See here for more

“We’re delighted to see the direct service come back as a daily service and with arguably a better plane,” said Michael Bennett from Ski Independence.

“The flight times are good and when the new $3 billion Salt Lake City airport opens in 2020 it should mean an even better experience for clients.

“I don’t think there’s anywhere else in North America where so many world-class resorts are within an hour’s transfer after a direct flight from the UK.”

Lets hope this time round Delta can make it work.

We’re looking forward to flying the route next winter and enjoying the fabulous skiing that Utah has to offer.
