The competition went ahead despite the Covid-19 pandemic which has resulted in all ski lifts in France remaining closed.

Only French sculptors took part.

The 15 competing teams had from 9am last Thursday to 12 noon on Sunday to build their masterpieces.

They began with blocks of ice up to 4 metres high.

It’s a painstaking task, as these photos posted by the resort clearly illustrate, photo credit for all images are Valloire.

The judging panel examined the works of art to choose the winner.

The result was announced in a prize-giving ceremony held behind closed doors.

First place went to “L’Envol du Silence” (The Flight of Silence).

It was created by Stéphane Rabusseau, Benoît Mesnier and Olivier Chatelain.
