The Skoki Lodge in Canada is a 4-hour hike from Lake Louise. Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge flew in by helicopter in the summer of 2011. We tried last week on skis. Bad weather forced us back first time but we gave it a second go.
The Skoki Lodge in Aberta is one of the more remote locations in the Canadian Rockies. Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge escaped there after their wedding. In the winter it is open for ski tourers. PlanetSKI attempted the 5-hour journey on skis.

We have just arrived in the Banff-Lake Louise ski area. An area we have not visited before. We will be skiing the back bowls, cross-country skiing, ice walking and a few other surprises. We are also following in Royal footsteps and staying at Skoki Lodge. Just a shame about jet lag.
A new linked ski area has been created in the Austrian Tirol as Alpbach links up with the resorts in the Wildschonau. It has taken 11 years of heated debate as change happens rather slowly in this part of Austria.

I have my own skis and boots that I rather like. It was therefore with some trepidation that I decided to rent.
It seems hard to think of a better one with several large falls, record amounts of snow in places and all areas of the Alps now under snow. PlanetSKI has visited Italy, Austria, France and Switzerland. So is it the best? Maybe, but how do you define best?

The snow out in the Alps at the moment is simply too tempting to resist. But where is a good place to go for a quick break on a budget? PlanetSKI has just been to Maria Alm in the Austrian Alps. Perhaps not the most obvious choice for early December.
It is December, there is thick snow across the Alps and resorts are opening with some of the best conditions in recent years. From the Pyrenees to Scotland. PlanetSKI declares the season underway and looks at what is in store for an industry that has faced troubled times.

The ski resort of Leukerbad in Switzerland is the biggest spa centre in Europe. It has a range of pools, baths and treatments. For the best one nudity is compulsory which is fine - unless you happen to be a shy Englishman.
Believe it or not there is a footpath up this sheer cliff face. It is not for the faint hearted but it is not too difficult either. Our content editor, James Cove, hiked up and took some stunning images.

PlanetSKI is in the Swiss resort where our content editor was hoping to make his first turns of 2012/13. However the weather closed in and the slopes were shut, but fortunately the clouds had a few silver linings. Several in fact.
Our content editor, James Cove, is in Zell am See with his 13-year old son, Max. If you thought the Alps was just for a winter holiday then think again. To see what the two of them get up to and the attractions of summer in the mountains then see their rolling blog...

We have just arrived in Zell am See in Austria and will be continuing a rolling blog for the week. It started off with an Ironman triathlon; watching that is. We also have some pictures from the Alps courtesy our readers, reporters and friends over on Facebook.
The season of 2011/12 is ending with more than a bang. It is a thumping great explosion though some people out in The Alps can't quite believe all the snow. Here at PlanetSKI we can and love skiing in April. We are currently in Switzerland.

It has just four main lifts, a single restaurant, its pistes are narrow with little variety of terrain and when PlanetSKI visited the snow was icy and hard-packed. Yet we had one of our most interesting day's skiing of the winter. How come?
As dusk falls most ski resorts are long since closed. Not around Quebec where several ski resorts are bursting into life as interest in skiing at night becomes increasingly popular. PlanetSKI reports from the dark side.

Our content editor travelled to California with some reluctance. It hadn't snowed for weeks and it was having the worst winter in years. He is not entirely a fan of skiing in North America either. He returns itching to get back. So what happened?
Our content editor is in Lake Tahoe in California. Up until last weekend it was having one of the worst winters on record. Then it started snowing and it hasn't stopped. Check out his latest blog.

Our content editor has just arrived on the west coast of the USA to visit Northstar, Heavenly and Kirkwood. He's been dreaming of the trip, while the resorts have been dreaming of snow. It has been a poor winter so far on the west coast.
The PlanetSKI content editor was in Utah in February 2012 a decade after he was there covering the 2002 Winter Olympics for the BBC. Later he will be looking at the Olympic legacy. Firstly though he asks whether Utah really has the Greatest Snow on Earth?

PlanetSKI has been skiing in Russia and on the way back our content editor stopped off in Istanbul for a day. We never thought we'd have a city review on a ski web site, but we have now...
PlanetSKI has been sampling the skiing at the resorts that will hold the ski and snowboard events for the Winter Olympics at Sochi in 2014. So, what is it like to ski in Russia? Read our latest blog from Russia.

PlanetSKI is in Sochi, Russia, the city that hosts the 2014 Winter Olympics. Our content editor has drunk vodka, been moved on by the security services and sampled the skiing. It's quite a place.
This weekend PlanetSKI is in Sochi to look at the preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympics and to see first hand what the skiing is like in the surrounding mountains. Already one British tour operator is offering holidays.
