A ski resort with a big reputation: What's there to do in Kitzbühel that raises the ski game? NEW

It's the town of sports in the Alps.

Action, adrenalin and the Hahnenkamm first spring to mind when it comes to Kitzbühel.

That's the internationally renowned downhill race on the renowned Streif run.

But aside from its sporting edge, Kitzbühel is the classic charming Austrian ski town.

It's been making history for 120 years' and in 2016 took the award for Austria's best ski resort.

And with Austria's standing reputation - both in Europe and further afield - offering culture, snow and ultimate ski experiences, it puts Kitzbühel up there among the world's best.

So here are five ways to step it up this winter in this glamorous Tirolean resort:

Skiing the famous Streif downhill course

One of the world's most spectacular race tracks, it's known to be the toughest downhill on the World Cup circuit.

And you can tackle it too!

Open for daring skiers and snowboarders throughout the season, you can really push your limits here.

Or for brave little ones, the Family Streif offers an easier ride, but still with the Streif name!

Austrian culinary delights at the Seidlalm

Why do so many love skiing in Austria?

The culture, the atmosphere, the eating and drinking: the mountain cabins!

Start your food tour in the traditional wooden gasthaus next to the Streif, the Seidalm.

A foodie's tip: Warm up with Moosbeerschmarrn - it doesn't get more Austrian than with this, here...

It's a berry twist on the traditional Kaiserschmarrn, which is chopped up thick pancakes with icing sugar and stewed fruit compot.

And there's no judgement for ordering this sweet dessert as a main meal; In fact, it's a right of passage on the slopes in Austria...

Skiing at the Kitzbüheler Horn

It was 1893 when Franz Reisch made it as the first ever to ski down the Horn.

And now the area has 78 slopes with 215km to explore on skis.

The Kitzbueheler Horn is the sunnier side of the ski area, across on the opposite side of the valley to the Hahnenkamm.

Here's the place to take a break from all those adrenalin-filled activities - cruise on skis, sun yourself on a terrace or just get through those 78...

Take a local ski guide and discover the best off-the-beaten-track terrain.

The Bichlalm or the Zweitausender are favourites for deep snow.

So get hardcore in the most amazing of settings.

Talk about peaceful landscapes - just waiting for you to make your mark (or lines) on it.

There's 56, 800 acres of off-piste terrain, so you might need a return trip...
