Peace, quiet, wonderful walks and good food in the Wildschönau Valley, a hidden treasure in the heart of the Kitzbühel Alps.

It's all about walking, hiking and trekking in this Tirolean treasure.

Yes, we know they're all levels of the same sport, but that's what makes the area especially good for just this.

Our top three suggestions for the area are:
  • Guided Walks Monday to Friday, highlight to the Filzmoos Moor
  • Niederau Open Air Band Concert
  • Cheese Farm via the Markbachjoch Cable Car

The Wildschönau part of Tirol has 190 miles of hiking paths.

These routes take walkers through green pastures full of cows, into mountain huts for refreshments and through colourful Alpine wildflower fields.

A great walk for nature-lovers is the walk up to the Kragenjoch mountain.

It is rated a moderate walk over 8.3km and estimated to take 4 hours, and take in 600m in altitude on a hut-to-hut.

Start at an altitude of 938m on the Minz path from Oberau and climb to one of the loveliest view points in the valley, the Boarstadl hut.

A further 20 minutes brings you to the Achental hut, famous for its views, snacks and a warm welcome.

But to the top three:

The Filzmoos Moor on the Niederau Bruggberg is a wide plateau,

It has an incredible habitat for wildlife.

Frogs, dragonflies, butterflies and song birds can be observed in this untouched biotope.

There are also deer and a gentle walk takes us north to Stockeben through the fragrant pine forests full of bilberries.

Friday 1st September is when the Niederau Open Air Band Concert takes place.

What's more to say, open air venue, music concert, the Meissnitzer Band and the programme "S'Leben im Gebirg" (Life in the mountaings) unplugged...

We might just try it out

Lastly, of the top 3 - take the Markbachjoch Gondola for more than just spectacular walks.

Experience the Käse Alm (Cheese Farm) where fresh dairy produce can be sampled and bought high in the mountains.

Here at the Markbachjoch is also a hotpot for paragliders.

So walk, eat cheese and music - what can be better.

Here's to the rest of summer!
