The holiday company that has a winter & summer programme has been sold to the same investors that have a stake in Iglu Ski.

The private equity investor LDC has acquired the Brighton-based company, Neilson Active Holidays.

LDC is a mid-market private equity investor.

It has current investments in the travel industry including, Away Resorts, Blue Bay Travel and Forest Holidays.

Iglu is the UK's largest ski agent though its main focus is now on cruise not skiing.

The price paid has not been released.

Neilson operates ski hotels and chalets, beachclubs and 65 yachts.

It offers holidays to almost 80,000 people every year, though it has cut back its product in recent years as it pulled out of markets that offered little profit with scant prospect of growth.

Its office space in Brighton has shrunk considerably as it has reduced capacity.

In recent years Neilson has capitalised on the increasing demand for activity and wellness holidays at the premium end of the market.

It wanted to target its profitable customers, rather than going for volume.

It used to have a 50/50 split between its summer and winter operations, but now summer is more popular as its ski product has been cut.

Neilson was established in 1978 and was taken over by Thomas Cook in 1999.

It was sold to Risk Capital Partners in 2013 for £9.5m as we reported at the time:

It already has close connections with Iglu Ski and offers its Mountain Collection holidays.

The existing management team of chief executive David Taylor and chairman Richard Bowden-Doyle will continue in their rolls.

"With the support of Risk Capital Partners we have built a wonderful business over the last five years. We have added new Beach clubs, new destinations, more activities, transformed winter with the launch of the mountain collection, improved hospitality, and seen record customer scores year after year," said David Taylor.

"In recognition of this we have won travel awards and numerous accolades for the outstanding service we deliver to our customers every day."

Neilson plans to use more regional UK departure airports and add new resorts and countries.
