TOP 5 SKIS FROM ELLIS BRIGHAM - Katie Bamber, Senior News Reporter
Tuesday December 4, 2018 - Email this article to a friend

We're rolling out some Top Fives in gear, starting with the most exciting piece of kit: skis. NEW

For both men and women.

Whatever your skiing style.

Experts at Ellis Brigham have picked out the skis for this season that they rate to be best, whether its for ackcountry or freeride, freestyle or all mountain, and not forgetting top piste skis for ripping around.

Back Country - Atomic Backland 95

A lightweight ski making the skinning up that bit easier, without losing any performance on the down or on piste.

Freeride - Head Kore 93

The ski won awards last year so this year there's little change to this year's model.

A versatile ski for an all-conditions skier.

Ski soft snow, hard snow, take it anywhere on the mountain...

A light ski but with a fun responsive ride.

Free Style - Faction CT 2.0 M

Tester's comments: Benj (Castleford)

It was always going to be good in the park and playing in soft snow, but its ability to charge on hard pack really surprised me.

A great choice for decent all mountain rippers.

All Mountain - Atomic Vantage X 86 Ti

This brand-new model delivers perfectly on the Atomic mantra of lighter, stronger, better.

It's a powerful all mountain ski that's equally at home laying down precision carves as it is smashing through crud and flowing through powder.

Piste - Salomon S/Max 10

Power. Stability. Grip. Precision.

It's the perfect carver.

WOMEN

Freeride - Atomic Backland 102

It's much a freeride ski as a touring ski.

The women's version of the men's backcountry top pick has the same great feedback.

102mm waist will handle the deepest of powder days.

The Powder rocker at the tip and tail improve handling in all conditions and the ski is still nimble enough to feel responsive on hard snow.

Tester's comments: Sarah (Aviemore):

Perfect for deep soft snow.

It was light and extremely manoeuvrable which made trickier terrain easy to handle.

Lively, light and fun!

Backcountry - Volkl 90Eight

If you want a versatile freeride model that will give you the confidence to attack all terrain, then look no further.

Freestyle - K2 Miss Conduct

An all terrain twin tip for skiers who want to go everywhere and don't care about the rules.

Ski the groomers, shred the trees, hit some jumps, it doesn't matter - just have fun.

All Mountain - Blizzard Black Pearl 88

The epitome of versatility: the 88mm waist really hits the sweet spot between providing just enough floatation in soft snow whilst still being nimble on corduroy too.

So good, nothing seems able to knock this ski off its Ski-of-the-Year top spot.

Piste - Salomon S/Max 10

Women's version of the men's piste winner.

Edge grip to the max so you can carve powerfully.

So there we have it.

Head to your nearest Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports store or check out more of the skis' information online here.

Read PlanetSKI's piece here on getting fitted for the right boot.

As what's the point of having skis if your boots don't work for you...?!
