Huge amounts of snow have led to a large amount of slides. Fortunately no-one has been injured. NEW

From November 28th to December 2nd the Colorado Avalanche Information Centre tracked 54 avalanches after huge amounts of snow fell.

The most extensive activity was in the North San Juan zone on December 1st, when there were nine reported avalanches on northeast-facing slopes.

Out of these 54 avalanches, only 7 were human-triggered.

"We have had no reports of any backcountry recreationalists caught in an avalanche since November 24th. This is very good news," said a statement from CAIC.

At the weekend 5 people were caught in an avalanche in Jackson Hole in Wyoming.

The avalanche occurred at 10AM on Saturday morning on the Expert Chutes run.

About 15 people including children belonging to a local ski club were on the slope when the 45m wide avalanche struck.

They were all rescued and no-one was seriously injured.

One woman was almost completely buried with just her head and hand above the surface.

The area has been bombed by the ski patrol and pronounced safe, earlier in the day.

It is the first in-bounds avalanche in the resort that has impacted on skiers and snowboarders for a decade.
