MOUNTAIN HEAVEN HEADS TO IRAN
Wednesday December 12, 2018 - Email this article to a friend

The unusual ski destination is on the agenda again for the UK chalet company, Mountain Heaven. Why not try something different?

It's not your average ski trip.

But who wants average, anyway?

OK, you won't be getting drunk and dancing till dawn.

But you will be experiencing great skiing, fabulous food and culture and will meet some of the friendliest people on the planet.

That's the verdict of guests who joined Mountain Heaven on its first escorted Iranian holiday.

"I think the whole trip worked brilliantly. The skiing was great in some very interesting scenery. I was impressed by their facilities," say Geoff Lloyd, who joined the trip in March 2018.

"The sightseeing was amazing. It was wonderful to see such architecture and culture going back so many centuries.

"However the highlight of the trip for me was meeting the people. Everyone we met out there were so friendly and welcoming.

"Many of them wanted photos taken with us, and some were keen to share their meals. It was an unexpected eye opener."

Mountain Heaven is the first British ski company to offer skiing holidays to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Here's a taster of what's in store if you choose to join the 11-night trip, departing at the end of February 2019.

THREE SKI RESORTS

Five days' skiing in three different resorts.

Dizin is about two hours' drive from the capital, Tehran, and is the country's most popular and largest ski resort, 2,650 metres up in the Alborz Mountains.

The trip will also visit the resorts of Shemshak and Darbandsar.

Dizin

The skiing goes up to 3,600m and the dry air makes for great powder. As it's off the beaten track compared to European resorts, you can often find untracked snow.

Shemshak

Shemshak is the second largest ski area in Iran, after Dizin with the slopes at an altitude of 2,550 m to 3,050 metres.

It caters for more advanced skiers with steep slopes and many mogul runs. There's also night skiing.

Darbandsar

Darbandsar is a relatively small private resort that is located on the slopes of Mount Seechal, at Darbandsar.

There are some good slopes for on and off-piste skiing and snowboarding.

It's the second most challenging resort and does not get crowded even in peak season.

SIGHTSEEING & CULTURE

It would be a shame to go the centre of ancient Persian civilisation without doing some sightseeing.

The holiday will include an overnight and sightseeing in Tehran and a trip to the city of Isfahan which is renowned for its grandeur, bazaars and UNESCO-listed central squares.
