PLANETSKI SET TO GO SKI JUMPING
Wednesday January 23, 2019 - Email this article to a friend

We're going to be watching it, rather than doing it as the superstars of ski jumping take to the skies above Innsbruck next month. NEW

The world-famous Bergisel Ski Jump will play host to the premier international Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined competitions of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.

Regular readers will know that PlanetsKI is basing itself in the city for 3-months from this weekend, February 1st, and we intend to immerse ourselves in winter in the Tirol.

And that naturally includes ski jumping and Nordic.

The venue is one of the most iconic sporting venues in the world:

The atmosphere is said to be sensational and we're looking forward to it.

"The Bergisel, which also hosts the Four Hills Tournament each year, is a truly spectacular venue that is guaranteed to thrill spectators," said Peter Unsinn, Head of Market Management at Innsbruck Tourism.

"For winter sports enthusiasts the Nordic World Ski Championships is the perfect time to visit. Not only can visitors see the sporting stars, but also take to the slopes themselves.

"The slopes of the former Olympic downhill runs at Axamer Lizum and Patscherkofel, and acclaimed Nordkette are all just a stone's throw from the city centre."

Here at PlanetSKI we will be skiing in all the resorts Peter mentions, and more.

So, why have we chosen Innsbruck as our winter base?
The ski jumping is just part of the Nordic World Ski Championships and the other main events are being hosted in Seefeld.

The athletes in the GB team have just been announced.
We are planning to head over to Seefeld to cheer on Andrew Musgrave and the other GB athletes.

And it seems we will be joining a selection of famous faces:

Of the different important representatives and officials who were invited over the past weeks, Harald V of Norway and Queen Sonja, were the first to confirm their attendance.

The Norwegian monarchs will be on location in Seefeld from the 15thFebruary to the 1stMarch to cheer on their athletes in Austria.

Many other high-ranking political representatives of the participating nations are expected to travel to Seefeld.

They include Austrian Sports Minister and Vice Chancellor HC Strache, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, and German Minister of Defence, Ursula von der Leyen.
