RYDING 9TH IN SCHLADMING - Jane Peel, Chief Reporter

The British number one Dave Ryding made it into the top 10 in the night slalom - his last race before the World Championships. NEW




It's the 32-year-old's best result at the venue after his 10th place there in 2017 and 12th last year.

He was in 8th place after the first run but dropped down one spot to finish 9th. 

It's an improvement on his 15th position in his last race at Kitzbuhel on Saturday.

It's also his third best World Cup result of the season so far.

He's currently 9th in the slalom world rankings. 

The race, which was said to have been attended by at least 40,000 spectators, was won by the world number one Marcel Hirscher.

The Austrian bounced back from two successive defeats in impressive style, winning by 1.21 seconds over second placed Alexis Pinturault of France.

Daniel Yule of Switzerland was third.

Next up for the slalom skiers is the World Championships, which take place in Are, Sweden.
