Many thousands of people are preparing to head to the highest resort in the Alps for the February break.

The busiest week of the season.

It is a resort popular with the British with most of the major UK operators offering holidays to the highest resort in the Alps.

The 18 cases "are mostly young adults working at the station this season," the ARS regional health agency for the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes district has said.

We reported earlier on it on PlanetSKI's News In Brief.

If you are heading to the resort here at PlanetSKI we advise to check you are vaccinated, but the probability of illness is very low.

There is no need to panic.

The resort has already seen 140,000 visitors this winter.

"No new case have been diagnosed for several days now. The resort recommends that people who are not vaccinated against measles get the injection," the resort said in a statement to PlanetSKI.

However numbers of measles cases have risen in the French region in recent years.

The ARS recorded eight cases in the area in 2016.

It went to 45 in 2017 and 84 in 2018.

The disease is highly contagious and can result in serious illness and possible death.
