RYDING MISSES OUT ON TOP 10
Sunday March 10, 2019 - Email this article to a friend

The British number one ski racer Dave Ryding is 12th in the penultimate World Cup slalom of the season in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

In the very warm weather and deteriorating conditions some of the top racers struggled.

The man who has already secured the 2018-19 slalom title, Austrian Marcel Hirscher, was in only 6th place after the first run.

Dave Ryding was 9th at the end of run one.

He was 1.13 seconds behind the leader Henrik Kristofferssen.

The Norwegian had more than half a second's advantage to take into the second run.

Ryding was looking for one of his trademark second run charges.

He was leading all the way down until the final pitch.

He crossed the line in 4th with eight more skiers to go.

He was unable to hold on to his top 10 place, finishing 12th.

The race was won by the Swiss skier Ramon Zenhaeusern with a 1.15 second margin over the second placed skier, Henrik Kristofferssen.

Marcel Hirscher was third.

The British number two, Laurie Taylor, fell near the top of the course and failed to finish run one.

There is just one slalom race left this season.

It is part of the World Cup finals to be held in Soldeu, Andorra next week.

The slalom takes place next Sunday.

Only the top 25 ranked skiers get to take part.

Dave Ryding is currently 8th in the standings.

So one more chance for him to get on the World Cup podium for a second time this season and the third time in his career.
