21 ATHLETES IN DOPING RING - James Cove, PlanetSKI Editor

It follows the arrest of 5 athletes at the Seefeld World Championships as investigations continue. NEW



Police carried out a co-ordinated raid on March 1st arresting 5 athletes and 4 others. 

The athletes were Max Hauke and Dominik Baldauf of Austria, Alexei Poltoranin of Kazakhstan and of Karel Tammjarv and Andreas Veerpalu from Estonia.

 PlanetSKI was in Seefled at the time and we reported from Seefeld on the dramatic events.
One athlete, Max Hauke, was caught with a needle in his arm as the raids were made.

Munich state prosecutor Kai Graeber has just announced the new arrests.

Further arrests made in Erfurt in Germany.

Three winter and two summer sports were involved in the doping ring.

Neither the sports, countries nor the athletes involved have been revealed.

"The time frame is from the end of 2011 to 2019 in Seefeld," Graeber told a news conference.

"There are three-figure cases of blood being taken out and then being reintroduced worldwide."

"We have here an exciting story with a lot of twists and the final chapter has not yet been written."

Blood was reportedly taken around the world to Germany, Austria, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Croatia, Slovenia and the American state of Hawaii.
