GB SNOWBOARDER DIES IN ANDORRA

The 59-year old man hit a tree at speed in the Grandvalira ski area. An investigation is underway. NEW



The man was on holiday with his wife but was riding alone at the time of the accident.

Rescue teams took him to the bottom of the ski area for treatment but were unable to revive him.

The incident happened in the resort of Soldeu on the Avet slope which is a black run.

"Grandvalira regrets the death of a British tourist. The man, who was practising snowboard, lost control and hit a tree, suffering serious injuries and going into cardiac arrest," said a statement from the resort.

"The base station rescue teams rapidly activated the emergency protocol and rushed to the scene to assist the injured man."

"They subsequently transferred him to the bottom of the slope. Despite all attempts to revive him, he died minutes later.

"Grandvalira regrets this terrible loss of life and would like to pass on their condolences to the man's family and friends."

An investigation is underway.
