SKIING EVERY MONTH IN SCOTLAND - Rod Frazer, The Highlands, Scotland
Saturday April 6, 2019 - Email this article to a friend

Hats off! Our Scotland reporter has completed his challenge to ski every month of the year... NEW

I've spent many years teaching skiing in France.

Inevitably chairlift chat would often turn back to my roots in Scottish skiing.

Lots of folk assume because of the relatively low altitude of the Scottish mountains that there is very little skiing and short seasons.

Both clients and colleagues would therefore be surprised to find out that it's possible to ski on the Scottish hills 12 months of the year.

Work and travel commitments meant however that I personally had never completed the task.

So, last May after enjoying a days skiing at Glencoe Mountain Resort I decided to embark on a 12-month Challenge.

Little did I know at that point we were about to enjoy one of the hottest summers in history.

And it hasn't been such a good winter this year.

My challenge took me across the Highlands, from Glen Banchor in the Monadhliath, Glen Feshie in the Cairngorms and Lochabers Aonach Beag.

Plus of course all around the five Scottish ski areas.

I can tell you now there is no surer conversation opener than meeting confused hikers on a scorching summers day, way up a hill in the middle of nowhere with a pair of skis strapped to your back!

So, here's wee edit documenting my 12 month challenge which I successfully completed the other day.
