BIDS IN FOR 2025 WORLD CHAMPS

Austria, Germany and Switzerland battle it out to host the International Ski Federation (FIS) World Championships.


Crans Montana in Switzerland, Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany and Saalbach in Austria are all vying for the 2025 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.

Trondheim in Norway has applied for the 2025 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.

Krasnoyarsk in Russia has applied for the 2025 FIS Freestyle, Snowboard & Freeski World Championships.

"FIS is very pleased to see such high interest in organising our flagship events," said FIS President, Gian Franco Kasper.

"All of the candidates have the potential and experience to organise events at the highest levels and we anticipate their bids to be diverse for the FIS World Championships in 2025."

This year the Alpine event was held at Are in Sweden.

The Nordics were held in Seefeld in Austria though proceedings were upset by a doping scandal.

In terms of 2025 a detailed project application is required by FIS in September 2019 and then inspections will take place.

Further meetings will take place and a final decision will be taken at the 52nd International Ski Congress in Royal Cliff, Thailand that will be held 17th -23rd May 2020.

Meanwhile it has been announced that Are and Ostersund in Sweden will jointly host the 2023 World Para Snow Sports Championships in January 2023.

The Para alpine skiing and para snowboard Worlds will take place in Are, while Ostersund will be home to the Para Nordic Skiing Worlds.

A total of 750 participants, including athletes, guides and coaching staff, are expected to take part in the World Championships.

Lillehammer, Norway, will host the next edition of the World Para Snow Sports Championships in February 2021.
