31-year-old Dmitry Koltsov was a member of the national teams of Russia and Moscow.

A winner of the Russian Cup and the reigning champion of Russia in snowboarding.

He was killed at 4:50 pm last Monday while standing outside a building in the 1900 block of East 7th Place in downtown Los Angeles, California.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's department.

A 30-year old man named as Rhett Nelson has been arrested.

His coach, Anton Blagovidov, has called his random death more than ‘absurd.'

Speaking to Russian media he said that snowboarding was a life priority for Koltsov and that he trained for days on end.

He described him as friendly and cheerful person.

"It is not enough just to call this death absurd, it most definitely should not have been his destiny," said Blagovidov.

After killing Dmitry Koltsov it's alleged Nelson shot an off duty police officer, Joseph Solano, in the head at close range.

He then robbed a petrol station and a supermarket.

He called his father to tell him what he had done and his father alerted the authorities.
