THE BIGGEST EVER SKI SURVEY - Jane Peel, Chief Reporter
Friday June 28, 2019 - Email this article to a friend

That's what the Ski Club of Great Britain is claiming for its latest consumer research. It's just got under way: have your say.

The Club has around 27,000 members and has been going since 1903.

It says its 2019 survey will be ‘the most comprehensive ever conducted among the UK's 1.5 million snowsports enthusiasts'.

The fieldwork got under way on 22nd June and will run for four weeks until 17th July.

The questions include subjects such as snowsport consumption, how people choose their holidays, skiers and snowboarders' shopping habits, how they rank ski resorts worldwide.

The survey is being carried out in association with SkiStar, the largest resort operator in Scandinavia.

The responses will be analysed and interpreted by a leading sports research and analysis company, Nielsen Sports.

The results will be announced to the industry and participants at the end of September before the Club's annual awards ceremony in London.

We have reported on earlier studies carried out by the SCGB.

"Working with our 65 industry partners we are aiming to provide UK skiers and the UK ski industry with an unparalleled level of insight, Ian Holt, the interim Chief Executive of the Ski Club of GB, said.

"The expansion of the scope of the survey and the recruitment of Nielsen Sports as our research analysts has only been possible through the commitment of our new title partner SkiStar and the market intelligence provided by their UK agency MPA Creative.

"We look forward to delivering an authoritative and comprehensive UK Ski Market Report in September."

SkiStar operates resorts such as Trysil and Hemsedal in Norway and Åre and Sälen in Sweden.

It also is the principle shareholder in St Johann in the Austrian Tirol.

It sees the UK as its priority after the Scandinavian market.

"UK skiers and snowboarders represent a passionate, knowledgeable and active snowsports audience," said Mathias Lindstrom, Sales and Marketing Director at SkiStar.

"We are very excited to work with the Ski Club of Great Britain on this initiative and look forward to the insight and understanding the results will deliver.

"Feedback from the UK will be vital in helping us shape our future programme of events and services across all 6 of our resorts."
