GB PARK & PIPE SQUADS FOR NEXT SEASON - Jane Peel, Chief Reporter
Monday August 19, 2019 - Email this article to a friend

Nearly 40 skiers & snowboarders will compete for Britain in Park & Pipe events in 2019-20. And some big names are back.

The elite ‘A' squad includes athletes who won World and Junior World Championships and finished on the podium at the prestigious Winter X Games, World Cups and at the European Youth Olympic Festival.

Several of them will be returning to action after long lay-offs as a result of injury.

Others are back after taking some time out.

The ‘B' squads also have among them several athletes who have already featured at World Cups and earned top three finishes one rung down at Europa Cup level.

SKI

The ski squad is spearheaded by slopestyle world champion James ‘Woodsy' Woods and Izzy Atkin who has finished on the Olympic, World Championships, World Cup and X-Games podiums.

Madi Rowlands is in.

She made a late-season return from injury in March where she affirmed her class with a World Cup top 10.

But she has since suffered more setbacks after developing a rare blood clot on her brain, which has halted her training.

Two-time Olympian Katie Summerhayes is also returning from a long injury lay-off.

She had major knee surgery but earlier this month got back on skis for the first time in almost a year.

Izzy Atkin's younger sister Zoe Atkin, Connie Brogden and Kirsty Muir are continuing their development into world class athletes and they complete the women's contingent in the ‘A' team.

Joining Woodsy in the men's 'A' team are Chris McCormick, who had a breakthrough year in 2018/19, and Tyler Harding.

Harding has been working hard to make his return following an injury after the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

SNOWBOARD

The snowboard squad is led by four athletes selected for PyeongChang and is a mix of youth and experience.

After more than a year on the sidelines, Katie Ormerod is back.

She secured a pair of Europa Cup podiums towards the end of last season and already has an Australia New Zealand Cup victory to her credit this month.

PyeongChang Big Air bronze medallist Billy Morgan took a season out of competition after the Olympics but is back in the mix.

In the 'A' Squad, Morgan is joined by his two fellow Olympians - Jamie Nicholls and Rowan Coultas - and Matt McCormick, who scored his first World Cup top 10 last season.

The European Youth Olympics bronze medallist Gabe Adams has also been selected along with Fin Bremner, Billy Cockrell and Ciaran Tucker.

The 2019/20 World Cup season begins this weekend in New Zealand with snowboard big air, followed by ski halfpipe in early September.
