That's the record prize money that will be awarded to the winners of the Hahnenkamm races next season in Kitzbuhel.

It is perhaps the most famous race of them all and next winter the races in Kitzbuhel in the Tirol in Austria are celebrating their 80th birthday.

To mark the occasion the race organisers have raised the total prize money up for grabs by 25% to €725,000.

€100,000 will go to the winner of the downhill, and another €100,000 to the winner of the slalom.

It is a record for a single race.

"We don't want to invest the budget for the 80th Hahnenkamm races into a jubilee party, but the local ski club prefers to set an example for the athletes," said the chief organiser, Michael Huber.

The races bring in tens of thousands of visitors to the resort and the surrounding ski villages.

It is far and away the busiest weekend of the year in the resort and make the resort famous across the ski world.

And this is what it is all about:

The GB slalom specialist, Dave Ryding, recorded his best ever result at the slalom in Kitzbuhel back in 2017.
Seems he will have added financal incentive this season.

The event next winter will be held from 24th January to the 26th.

The winner of a World Cup race usually earns around €41,000.

Prize money is paid down to 30th place where the racer earns €450.

Last season the US racer, Mikaela Shiffrin, earned a record €800,000 across the season.

Marcel Hirscher, who won a record-extending eighth straight overall title, topped the men's list with €510,000.

He has since retired.

The World Cup alpine ski racing season starts later this month, October 26th - 27th, with giant slaloms for women and men on the Rettenbach glacier in Soelden in the Tirol in Austria.
