World Snow Day
Tuesday January 8, 2013 - Email this article to a friend

The second edition of the event took place on Sunday 20th. It is run by the International Ski Federation and aims to promote all forms of snowsports to children and young people. Something we fully endorse here at PlanetSKI.

The first edition of World Snow Day exceeded expectations and set the bar very high in terms of the number of organisers and level of participation.

Whilst international events often see a decline during their 2nd edition, FIS said the 2nd edition of World Snow Day saw  increased numbers and continued growth.

230 Organisers across 39 countries registered events to celebrate all things snow on 20th January 2013.

Whilst the number of participants is more important, the number of events gives a good indication of the interest and health of the event.

More than 200,000 people participated in the first edition on 22nd January 2012.

Here at PlanetSKI we reported on the inaugural event last season.

"The Organisers of the events for the 2nd edition of World Snow Day have outdone themselves. The creativity displayed by them has been fantastic and the Organisers are already now certain to be one of the main stars of the show. It is a pleasure to be working with them all and we are excited to see the 2013 World Snow Day take place in just 18 days," said the FIS Coordinator for Bring Children to the Snow, Andrew Cholinski.

One resort involved was St Anton in the Austrian Tirol.

28 Children from the SOS-Children village in nearby Imst were invited to experience a day in the resort.

While the beginners' group went out with instructors from the Ski School Arlberg, the other children in smaller groups enjoyed skiing down the slopes of St. Anton am Arlberg.

The Arlberger Bergbahnen organised free lift passes and the shop, Intersport, free Ski and Snowboard equipment. The children had a delicious lunch at MooserWirt and in the afternoon a sweet snack at seitenBlick restaurant.

"All in all, the children from the SOS-Children village in Imst had lot of fun and an unforgettable adventurous day," said a spokeswoman from the resort.
