Andermatt expansion begins
Monday July 20, 2015 - Email this article to a friend

Work has started on a new lift at the Swiss resort. It is the start of things to come. But with a high exchange rate and falling winter numbers to Switzerland will it succeed?

The question is asked in an interesting article by the web site, Swissinfo, and we echo its questions here at PlanetSKI.

See here for the article.

The first lift will start the connection of Andermatt in the canton of Uri with Sedrun in Graubünden.

There are many other infrastructure developments that are scheduled for completion in 2020 and all at a reported cost of almost CHF 2billion.

An Eygptian billionaire is financing the project.

It includes 14 new lifts and 40 kms of new slopes.

The accommodation in the resort will be expanded with a further 490 apartments and 25 chalets.

There are plans for 6 hotels and an 18-hole golf course to attract the summer trade.

Will it be a white paradise or a white elephant?
