Good news & bad news

The good news is Delta Airlines is putting on a direct flight from Heathrow to Salt Lake City in Utah. And the bad news?

It is only during the summer months.

So, to get to all the ski resorts that are within an hour of the 2002 Winter Olympic city you will still need to change and catch an internal flight.

Next winter the resorts of Park City and the Canyons are joining to create the largest ski area in the USA as we have reported here.

Then there is Alta, Snowbird, Deer Valley, Snowbasin and Sundance.

Plus a number of smaller resorts that are worth a visit; Brighton and Solitude to name a couple.

We reported earlier this week on the new flight when one of our readers tipped us of.

Sadly though it will run from May to October and a spokesperson for the airline confirmed to us that there are no plans to run the service in the winter, though the airline will keep the route under review.

"Connecting Utah's business community with a global city like London will bring even greater prosperity to the Beehive State. Economically, connections like these matter. Salt Lake City serving as a hub that connects the international business community is important to our state's growth," said the President and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber, Lane Beattie.

Lets hope they soon decide to chase more UK ski business.

For the spirit of the mountains
