She has equalled the record of the most Downhill wins in women's ski racing - 36.

"Another day, another record! Honored to now be tied with the legendary Anna Marie M. Pröll with 36 downhill wins! So happy she could be here today. So far 2016 kicks A$$!! On to the next one" she said on Facebook after her victory in the Austrian resort of Zauchensee.

The record of the Austrian skier Annemarie Moser-Proell had stood for 36 years and she was there to congratulate Vonn.

The victory means Vonn leads the downhill World Cup standings by 50 points.

In the overall competition she is 58 points behind the leader, Laura Gut, of Switzerland.

Vonn already has 72 World Cup race victories in all disciplines.

Annemarie Moser-Proell holds one more record that will take Vonn some time to beat as she has won won six overall titles compared four by Vonn.

Bad snow conditions meant the race was held over two runs, the first time this has happened in 14 years.

The race organisers had to lower the start because of insufficient snow on the upper part of the course.

It shortened the course from its usual 3 kilometers to 1,875 meters.

Vonn clocked a combined time of two minutes 11.17 seconds over her two runs.

"First run, I think I skied really solidly, and then second run, I was a little bit more conservative because I knew I had a big lead. I knew that everyone was having trouble with the bumps, so I just tried to ski relaxed and it worked," said Vonn.
