Its stores across the country have a series of events from off piste safety to skills sessions with the Warren Smith Ski Academy. There are films and much else besides. NEW

The specialist snowsports retailer, Ellis Brigham, has arranged a number of events ahead of the season to inform, advise and excite ski and snowboard enthusiasts looking forward to the winter.

Here's what it has coming up and what is underway already:

Winter Skills Talks

Where? London, Bristol, Manchester & Fort William

A series of four talks over 10 days.

It covers a wide range of topics aimed at informing skiers and snowboarders of how to enjoy and safely make the most of the mountains this winter.

Warren Smith Ski Technique Lab Tour

Where? Glasgow, Fort William, Xscape Yorkshire and Milton Keynes, Manchester, London, Bristol, Tamworth, St Pauls, Kensington High St & Covent Garden

Warren and his team will be visiting 10 Ellis Brigham stores in October to share their expertise and offer tips for improving technique before hitting the slopes.

The talks will explain the 3 Way Lineage and its importance in developing ski technique.

Warren is a professional free skier and well seasoned ski technique coach.

He has been running the Warren Smith Ski Academy in Verbier for 20 years.

Ortovox Avalanche Awareness Tour

Where? Stores UK-wide, including Fort William, Sandbanks, London, Glasgow, Manchester, Cardiff and Bristol

This series of talks will cover the essentials on avalanche awareness as well as how they are triggered and some practical transceiver training.

The 90-minute sessions will look into how to make the right decisions when skiing off-piste and how to deal with a crisis, should one happen.

This tour is run by Henry Schniewind and the HAT team.

PlanetSKI spent three days with Henry on the mountain back in 2014 and spoke to him about backcountry safety and avalanche awareness.

The events kick off on 16th October and run through to 30th January.

The European Outdoor Film tour

Kicking off in London on 2nd November, the two-hour programme will have 10 showings across the UK.

It is a chance to see the most spectacular sports and adventure films of the year.

This years line up includes a free skiing film, kayaking, mountaineering and mountain biking.

Ice-bathing in the Arctic, kayaking through the jungle of Papua Neuguinea and snowy peaks in South-East Asia - here is the E.O.F.T. 16/17 teaser:
