IT'S CHEAPER BY PRIVATE JET! - Katie Bamber, PlanetSKI
Tuesday October 18, 2016 - Email this article to a friend

A private flight to the Alps during next February half term may be cheaper than going on a scheduled airline. Here we look at the costs of travelling to the Alps in its busiest week.

Are you desperate to get the family to the Alps next February half-term?

You might have to consider a chartered jet with prices already soaring on the big name flight companies.

Scheduled daytime Gatwick flights are already so expensive that it's actually cheaper to travel oligarch-style on a private plane from tiny Farnborough Airport in Hampshire.

A private jet has been organised by family tour operator, Butler & Lloyd, for £730pp, on February 11th.

The price, believe it or not, is cheaper than BA where the price comes in at £889pp for a similar flight from nearby Gatwick.

The private jet in question is a 50-seater Embraer ERJ 145.

It is a twin-engine jet with a 20m wingspan.

It has a cruising speed of 840km/h and a range of 3,350kms.

It's rather pleasant inside too.

Husband and wife team, Bella and Will Butler, who have organised the charter, provide children's entertainment and refreshments, and there's the added incentive of no security queue or passport control.

Here's the terminal at Farnborough that is designed for 80 business travellers.

"We have three small children ourselves and anyone who has taken their young family skiing knows that the journey can be hell - overcrowding, inevitable delays, and a long and difficult walk to the gate. You're all exhausted before even leaving the UK - it's no way to start a holiday," Butler and Lloyd's Bella said.

An added bonus is that parking for the week is free at Farnborough and only half an hour from Waterloo.
