SNOW CAMP INSPIRES
Thursday February 23, 2017 - Email this article to a friend

An East London teenager joins a Snow Camp weekend and his life is transformed. Skiing is now a big part of Jonjoe Boulter's life.

Jonjoe's story is an inspirational one.

He was a young teenager without direction or inspiration in life, and with the help of the Snow Camp charity he has found a passion for skiing.

More than that, he is now a ski instructor.

In Sunday's episode of Ski Sunday on BBC2, Britain's Olympic snowboard medallist Jenny Jones meets Jonjoe Boulter and takes us back to his life in Hackney Wick, in London's East End.

As a 16-year old teenager, life seemed empty.

But with the encouragement of his mother Jonjoe attended a Snow Camp weekend at the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead, and pretty quickly he was hooked on skiing.

"I didn't know who I was so I was just kind of following the crowd, trying to fit in," he says.

"I always tried to be a big man. I wanted to show that I was this cool, big person when really I wasn't. Until I started skiing I didn't have a clue who I was."

Snow Camp offered Jonjoe the chance to take up skiing and to put him through the ski instructor exams.

He is now a qualified ski instructor in the upmarket  Swiss resort of Verbier and is being sponsored by the Warren Smith Academy.

Jonjoe is working towards his ISIA Level 3 Instructor qualification with the Academy.

Put simply, skiing changed Jonjoe's life.

If you missed Ski Sunday it's well worth watching his inspiring story below.

"Jonjoe Boulter is a lad I met in November 2013 and we decided to sponsor him," says Warren Smith, who is a patron of Snow Camp.

"He's now almost a fully qualified instructor and has already worked for our Academy."

Warren adds:  "He's way more qualified than I was at his age! Well done Jonjoe Boulter and well done Snow Camp!"

Jonjoe's story is a perfect example of the positive impact of Snow-Camp’s work with young people.
