£500K INVESTMENT AT CHILL FACTORE - Katie Bamber, Senior News Reporter

Half-a-million pounds is being spent on renovating Manchester's real snow slope and its facilities. It follows criticism of snow quality. UPDATED

The leisure facility attracts half-a-million visitors each year.

It is the UK's longest indoor ski slope at 180m and is 100m at its widest point.

It cost £31m and opened in November 2007 in the Trafford Park area of Trafford in Greater Manchester.

Locals though have been calling for re-furbishment for a while with some criticism of snow quality that has led to events being cancelled.

The project to update the centre includes:

  • Installing new rental desks - that hire out 70,000 snowboards and 130,000 skis annually.
  • A full redesign.
  • Replacing the snow with 900 tonnes of fresh stuff.

A main aim is to reduce waiting during the busiest times.

Following complaints due to the quality of snow earlier this year, it has been completely replenished on the 180-metre slope.

From 8th-26th May is when the snow was refreshed and was done in stages so the slope could stay open as usual.
