MORE US STATS - Katie Bamber, Senior News Reporter
Friday June 16, 2017 - Email this article to a friend

In winter we had figures of the snowfall coming out of the USA - now it's the stats of visiors, skier days and, yes, more snow figures.

Just when things are heating up for summer, let's go back to snow.

So yep, we've got it... North America had a record-setting season in places.

The USA has had (is still having in a handful of resorts) one of the best.

Here's a short round up as the main ski states release their final numbers.

It was an eight-month season as Snowbird stopped its final lifts on 11th June.

Through the state's 14 resorts, a record number of skier and snowboarder visits was hit: 4,584,658

Winner of the biggest snowfall award was Brighton Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon, reporting a huge 16m this season. It had over 5m in January alone.

The numbers are just down from last year, but Winter 16/17 was its second busiest season ever.

The total visits are just shy of 15/16 season record 13 million.

The West had the best of all.

It was the best in 22 years and follows years of drought as well as some recent very poor seasons.

Mammoth Mountain has announced it will be open into August (as well as free skiing on 4th July!).

Reno's National Weather Service (NSW) dubbed this month "Juneary" with snow coating the Nevada mountains to below 1,800m into the second week in June.

There has been up to 10 inches in places such as Austin.

Snow has fallen this week in other ski states in the USA.

Montana, Idaho and Wyoming received several inches in the respective resorts of Big Sky, which had over 15cm, Sun Valley and Jackson Hole.

Nationally, skier days increased this season: 54.7 million.
