A cosier sounding lodge there isn't; This winter the ski chalet in Serre Chevalier relaunches and with a British couple running it. NEW

There mightn't be a cosier looking lodge, for that matter.

Sleeping up to 12 people, Chez Bear is a restored 17th century farmhouse.

Serre Chevalier is situated above the gorgeous town of Briançon in the Hautes-Alpes region of France.

The lodge has five bedrooms, an open plan living area with original stone work and larch beams.

Over four floors it has 4,000 sq. ft with amazing panoramic views from the balcony of the valley and mountains.

There is an open-plan lounge with log fire, a bar with a pizza oven, a vaulted games room and a dining room for up to 12 people.

The new owners, Josy and Joe Davis, previously ran another chalet hotel in Serre Chevalier.

However, they decided to take on the bear house to focus on the luxury end of the market.

"We have a big job to keep up the fantastic reputation that Chez Bear has built up, but with our previous chalet experience and local knowledge, we feel we can continue the magic here," Joe said.

"Our food will focus on Italian and French influences with fresh, seasonal ingredients that are sourced locally.

"We're really looking forward to welcoming our first guests of the winter on the 16th December, which is already sold out."

Christmas and New Year weeks are still available so get in quick!

Prices start at £8,000 for exclusive use of the chalet.

It is for seven nights half-board.

It includes six nights with dinner - 5-course evening meals prepared by a private chef - house wine with dinner, afternoon tea, an open bar and in-resort transfers.

Other services available:

  • airport transfers (Turin Airport)
  • ski school lessons
  • ski lessons with Darren Turner - Read more here
  • equipment hire
  • ski passes
Serre Chevalier is a favourite resort of PlanetSKI.

The terrain available in Serre Chevalier is vast, far bigger than its name, and the slopes are quiet.

It is also just a 20-minute drive from La Grave.
