Inghams is re-introducing it in parts of Italy next winter. It remains outlawed in France as a legal case crawls its way through the courts.

The Ski Instructor's Association in Piedmont challenged the legality of ski hosting in 2014 and all the main UK ski operators withdrew their ski hosting programmes across Italy.

Now Inghams is bringing it back for next winter, but not in Piedmont.

Ski hosting involves a tour operator representative guiding guests round the pistes of a resort.

No tuition or off piste skiing is involved.

It gives people a social experience and an opportunity to discover the slopes and mountain restaurants from someone familiar with the resort.

Ski hosting is backSki hosting is back

"One of the highlights of a ski holiday for many Inghams' guests is to join their Rep and fellow holidaymakers on a sociable ski day out," said Louise Newton from Inghams.

"Following the continued success of the service in other resorts in Switzerland, Austria and Canada, Inghams is dedicated to enhancing guests' holiday experiences by sharing its expertise on the mountain - through this service, Reps can show new guests around and help them plan their week with tips on the best ski runs and mountain restaurants."

"The complimentary service adds value to the guests' holidays and is ideal for friends, couples or single travellers who are red-run competent and looking to make the most of their time on the mountain."

Inghams is also offering a number of new resorts in Italy for next winter: Claviere, Livigno, Pila and Aosta.

Ski hosting remains outlawed in France after a case was brought against the UK operator, Le Ski.
The UK operator, Neilson, offers ski hosting across its main resorts by using fully-qualified instructors.

It is a service we have used here at PlanetSKI.
Neilson offers it at 25 of its properties in France, Austria, Andorra and Italy.

Meanwhile Inghams is also focusing on people taking a short ski break this winter, rather  than the traditional 7-day affair.
