THIEVES TARGET SKIERS ON SWISS RAIL
Saturday December 23, 2017 - Email this article to a friend

Passengers are being urged to be vigilant and keep their luggage with them at all times following a spate of thefts on the line from Geneva.

Gangs of thieves are targeting passengers and stealing their luggage.

They take the suitcases and skis as a train stops at a station.

Guards are now urging people to keep their luggage with them at all times.

People are asked to put their luggage in the overhead shelves or place next to their seat.

This was the scene on the train from Martigny to Geneva airport this week with skis placed overhead and luggage in the aisles.

It is not a new problem and we have reported on it in the past on PlanetSKI.
The authorities blame criminal gangs from Eastern Europe and North Africa.

The train operator, BLS, says there are five to ten thefts a month on its trains and the numbers are rising.
