Three new chairlifts for biggest resort in Scandinavia

Are in Sweden is to get new 4 and 6 seater chairlifts. The resort is owned by Skistar that owns other resorts in Norway and the company has ambitious plans for the future.

The new lifts will boast capacity in the ski area by about 5,000 pople per hour and further improve the skiing experience in the zone below the treeline.

The building work will commence as soon as the ski area closes at the start of May, and opening of the three new lifts is scheduled for December 2013.

The new lifts are situated at important hub areas within the ski area and will make big difference in terms of orientation and efficiency.

“This is one of the biggest investments ever made in ski lifts in Åre. With these new lifts, Åre will keep in step with the leading Alpine ski resorts. We will become even more attractive, not least from an international perspective,” said Niclas Sjögren Berg, Head of Destination, SkiStar Åre.

The first new lift, a quad chairlift will replace the T-bar today operating in Tegefjäll.

The 1.1km lift will rise 275 metres and double capacity on the route to 2400 people per hour and will offer great potential for development of the excellent natural conditions in the Duved-Tegefjäll part of the ski area.

The second new lift, Fjällgårdsexpressen, a six-seater chairlift able to transport skiers swiftly from Fjällgården up on Sadeln, also with a capacity of 2400 people per hour, will run over 1.2km rising 270 vertical metres.

There is currently no lift in place here and the nearby T-bar, Tottliften, will remain in its existing position.

The third new lift, Sadelexpressen, another six-seater chairlift which will take skiers from the base station of Högåsliften in Björnen to the top of Sadelliften, and will have a capacity of 2800 people per hour.

The 1.6km long lift will rise 302 vertical metres and replace the existing Sadelliften T Bar lift allowing for widening of the current runs.

“Fjällgårdsexpressen and Sadelexpressen are essential parts in the development of the Björnen area and will provide a smooth link between the family favourite area Björnen and the central part of Åre’s ski area,” said a company statement.
