BRITISH SKIER DIES AFTER HITTING SNOW BARRIER

The man was in the French resort of Les2Alpes.  He’s the second skier to die in similar circumstances in the Isère region this season.

The accident happened on Monday afternoon.

The 26-year-old man is believed to have crashed into wooden snow barriers on the side of a marked run in La Fée sector at about 3pm.

According to French newspaper reports, the piste patrol attended and attempted to resuscitate the skier.

They were reinforced by the Isere PGHM high mountain gendarmes and a mountain rescue doctor, who flew to the scene in a Sécurité Civile helicopter.

The man, who had been wearing a helmet, could not be saved.

His identity has so far not been released.

An investigation is under way.

In December a 13-year-old died after hitting snow barriers in the Sept Laux ski area, also in Isère.

Wooden barriers are used to retain wind-blown snow.

The latest fatality comes after another recent death of a British skier.

Barnaby Levy, who was 34, was caught in an avalanche on northern island of Hokkaido, in Japan.
