The operator has been working in the Aosta Valley in Italy for almost 40years, but has decided to suspend all operations next winter due to Covid-19.
It had already cancelled holidays for the beginning on the winter and now it has decided to pull the plug on the whole 2020/21 season.
“The situation regarding the coronavirus, both here in the UK and in Italy, has deteriorated in recent weeks,” it said in a statement.
“Combined with the various government restrictions in place, we have been forced to make the very difficult decision to cancel all our operations for this coming season.”
Interski is a fixture of the Aosta Valley working from its main base in the city of Aosta and its linked ski resort of Pila.
It has taken nearly 300,000 people skiing and provided employment for 1,000s of staff.
Interski is an affiliate member of BASI (British Association of Snowsport Instructors) and has provided employment for many British ski instructors as well as training
The company offers package snowsports holidays for adults, families, individuals and groups.
It also has a popular schools and colleges programme.
All clients and partners have the opportunity for a refund and a deferral.
It will be a big blow for the economy of the wider Aosta Valley.
Currently there are restrictions on people from the UK entering Italy and the Aosta Valley itself has just been placed into lockdown.
Italian ski areas go into lockdown
- No one will be able to leave or enter the “red zone” regions.
- People must stay home, except to go to work or shop for essentials.
- They can exercise near their homes and while wearing masks.
There is also a night-time curfew across the whole of Italy.
Anyone coming into the UK from Italy is required to go into quarantine for 14-days.
This is expected to be reduced with new measures likely to be introduced in December.
Interski is looking forward to the following season where it plans to bounce back in style.
“We have operated for almost 40 years I Italy’s beautiful Aosta Valley and intend to carry on for another 40 years and more – it’s time to focus on 2021/22,” it added.
The news comes as four UK ski companies, Inghams, Esprit, Ski Total and Flexiski , cancel all December holidays.
