Man Survives 7 Nights in Italian Alps with Help From His Dog

A 33-year old man was hiking with his dog when he fell and broke his ankle. He said his dog helped keep him alive until the rescue services arrived.

The man from Trieste was hiking in a remote corner of the Alps with no phone signal coverage when he fell and broke his ankle.

He managed to drag himself to a nearby stream where he was able to keep himself hydrated.

He said after being rescued that his dog, Ash, “helped me to survive”.

When he failed to return home is girlfriend alerted the rescue services.

They carries out an air search and saw a foil blanket from the air and found him 100m away as they carried out a ground search.

He used his map as a blanket and had covered himself in leaves.

The man was hungry and thirsty and is now being treated for his injuries in hospital.

Ash stayed with him and kept him company, which helped him survive, he says.

He was rescued by the Friuli mountain and cave rescue service, CNSAS.
