Verbier Ends its Ski Season

It is the end of a long and strange season under the pandemic. We have recently reported from the area on how the 4 Vallees and other resorts have coped in this, the strangest of winters. Earlier we heard from some of the people lucky enough to make it to the slopes.

PlanetSKI reporter Mark Urban has recently been in the Valais canton in Switzerland assessing how the area has dealt with the ski season and the impact of the pandemic.

See here for his full story:

As well as speaking to experts and officials he sought to discover what it had been like for the mere mortals.

With a please and a thank you to those he spoke to.

He spoke to Morten from Denmark.

Many European nations have not prevented their people travelling and because Denmark has a low incidence of Covid, no quarantine was required by Morten and his wife when they got to Verbier.

Morten is pleased to be in Switzerland even if bars and restaurants are shut.

Lustina is a Romanian who lives in the Netherlands was determined to make her journey.

She’s a devoted skier but she’s also tried to carry on as far as possible normally under Covid, travelling to the US, South America, and now the Alps, having had 22 PCR tests (for Covid) and multiple quarantines over the past year.

The Reynolds’s must be one of the very few British families enjoying skiing this year.

Mike and Lucy have been working in Basel for the past six months.

For them it’s getting home to the UK that’s tricky.

And a reminder that Mark’s full article for PlanetSKI is here should you wish to find out more:
