Fresh Avalanche Warnings After Further Fatalities

In the latest accident two Italian skiers have died off piste in the Mont Blanc Massif in France. Two others died last week in the same area. Caution is urged by the authorities after fresh spring snow.
The latest victims were aged 31 and 39 and were on the Aiguille Verte on the Argentiere glacier at 3,600m when they were swept away by an avalanche at the end of last week.
The rescue authorities were alerted by family members when the pair failed to return home.
Their bodies have been recovered.
Earlier a skier and a mountaineer died in separate avalanches in the same area.
In the Dolomites in Italy two people were killed by avalanches last week after fresh snow.
This month has seen numerous fatalities in the French mountains with 12 people dying in the first 10 days of May.
Almost 40 people have died in avalanches despite the fact that the lifts have been closed all season.
The authorities are urging caution as the spring ski touring season continues.
