GB’s Charlotte Bankes Takes Another Gold

The snowboard cross star is gathering momentum with the Beijing Winter Olympics around the corner. It’s her second win of the weekend and third of the season as she tops the World Cup standings.

It was another stunning performance for GB’s newest star.

She came out on top in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, in Russia for the second time this weekend after her first win on Saturday.

It was her second snowboard cross World Cup event win in as many days.

“I am a lot happier with my riding today and I managed to feel really good when entering into the big final,” said Bankes, who won ahead of France’s Trespeuch and American Lindsey Jacobellis.

“I also had some really good starts today, so I feel super happy.”

The victories follow a win in Austria in December and a second place in China in the first event of the season.

She is the reigning world champion and a strong contender for a medal at the Winter Olympics in China next month.

“I am really happy. It was a tight race, so it was fun riding,” said Bankes after the event on Saturday.

Bankes has 409 points after five snowboard cross events, while Chloe Trespeuch is second on 310

She is a new addition to the GB squad though she comes with a history of sporting success after competing for France.

Under the French flag she was a three-time World Cup winner and three-time French champion.

She’s competed at two Winter Olympics for France.

Charlotte Bankes was born in Hemel Hempstead to British parents but moved to France at the age of four and then went through the French system.

She switched to competing for Great Britain back in November 2018 as we reported at the time:

Elsewhere GB’s Katie Ormerod came 4th in a slopestyle World Cup competition.

And Kirsty Muir showed her class.

For GB’s Dave Ryding, and another Beijing medal hope, it wasn’t to be in Adelboden in Switzerland.
