Austria Eases Covid Entry Rules
21st February 2022
People arriving to ski will just need proof of double vaccination or recovery or a negative test when entering Austria. It has been widely welcomed in the snowsports world, and will give a boost to the second half of the season and spring skiing. NEW
When in Austria skiers and snowboarders will continue to need to show proof of vaccination status when visiting restaurants, cafes and bars.
Vaccination is also needed to access the slopes and use the lifts.
The NHS Covid pass is accepted as proof.
It continues to be mandatory to use FFP2 masks on public transport, including cable cars, gondolas and at many indoor settings.
But, most importantly, entry rules to the country have been eased from Tuesday.
Here at PlanetSKI we are particularly pleased as we are shortly moving from our current base in the Aosta Valley in Italy to the Tirol in Austria.
We are arriving in Obergurgl at the weekend, and will later be skiing in the resorts of the Ski Jewel and St Johann.
Many other areas including the Zugspitz and St Anton are on our itinerary.
We will be skiing in the Ski Welt too next month.
The team at PlanetSKI is double jabbed, boosted and recovered.
But it means less bureaucracy with the endless and seemingly pointless testing to move between alpine countries.
The changes also means the unvaccinated can enter the country if they meet certain requirements such as a negative test result.
“We are pleased to inform you that the Covid-19 measures will be largely lifted in Austria and thus also in Tirol in the coming weeks,” said a statement from the Tirol to PlanetSKI.
“This means that travelling to Tirol and staying there will gradually become less complicated and nothing will stand in the way of carefree spring skiing from 5th March at the latest.”
On 5th March, all measures will largely be dropped.
· No entry regulations
· No upper limits for persons
· No general curfew
· Opening of night catering
· Consumption allowed at events
· Mandatory wearing of masks only in vital trade (supermarket, post office, banks, pharmacies, etc.) and public transport. In all other places, there is still a recommendation to wear an FFP2 mask in enclosed spaces.
