The ‘Ultimate’ Guide to Off-Piste Routes in Val d’Isère

A new book, detailing more than 200 off-piste routes in Val d’Isere is being launched in the resort next month and all the money raised will go to charity.

Val d’Isère Hors Piste: Le Guide Complet is the second book of its kind to be produced by British skier and PlanetSKI reader, Simon Perry, along with a host of other experts.

The first was a complete guide to the off-piste in neighbouring Tignes.

It has raised €22,000 for cancer research so far.

We reported on the unique nature of the Tignes guide and how Simon came up with the idea in our article of December 2019.

Now Simon has completed the project for the entire ski area that was once known as the Espace Killy, with 245 routes in Val d’Isere.

The book is in French and English.

It will be officially launched at Le Garage on Avenue Olympique in Val d’Isère at 4pm on Monday 7th March.

Val d’Isère Hors Piste: Le Guide Complet is the ultimate guide to this incredible area brimming with local knowledge, equipment, orientation, conditions, approach and seriousness,” says mountain guide and author, Bruce Goodlad.

“Clear route descriptions, IGN maps and route photographs make for the most information rich guidebook I have ever used.

“If that wasn’t enough, QR codes link to online information that can be integrated with digital mapping.

“Topped off with inspirational photographs this book should be on every skier’s bookshelf.”

The book costs £32.99 or €39 and all the proceeds will go to SOLEA, a Tignes-based charity supporting cancer research.

You can buy it at the launch or from Backcountry Books.
