The snowboard cross Crystal Globe was secured with a win in Reiteralm in Austria. It makes up for a disappointing Winter Olympics.
It was her 4th win of the season and she takes the crown with one race to spare.
“The Crystal Globe has always been a dream for me but I really didn’t know if I’d ever manage to get the consistency to be able to fight for it,” said Bankes after her success.
“With the start to the season I had, it became a goal and I’m just so happy and proud of what we’ve done as a team to achieve it certainly after the disappointment of the Olympics.
“Knowing I’ve secured the globe is amazing but I’ve still got a World Cup in Veysonnaz and I’m looking forward to another great battle with the girls to finish this amazing season.”
Bankes was one of Team GB’s greatest hopes of a gold medal at the Beijing Winter Games last month, but she failed to make it past the quarter-finals.
Bankes’ overall total of 569 points is now insurmountable with her closest challengers Michela Moioli, 456 points, and France’s Chloe Trespeuch, 435 points.
They are unable to make up the deficit of more than 100 points.
Bankes is a recent addition to the GB squad though she comes with a history of sporting success after competing for France.
Under the French flag she was a three-time World Cup winner and three-time French champion.
She’s competed at two Winter Olympics for France.
Charlotte Bankes was born in Hemel Hempstead to British parents but moved to France at the age of four and then went through the French system.
She switched to competing for Great Britain back in November 2018 as we reported at the time:
