The heavy snow in New Zealand has brought with it some avalanche danger.
The New Zealand Avalanche advisory from the Mountain Safety Council put out high level warnings for South Island mountain ranges earlier this week.
The avalanche risk was Level Four on a scale of Five in places.
The Mountain Safety Council said there are very dangerous avalanche conditions and travel in terrain where avalanches can occur is not recommended.
It says natural avalanches are likely and human-triggered avalanches are very likely.
Large avalanches could occur in many areas of the mountains and some very large avalanches in specific areas.
Elsewhere in the ski areas around Christchurch the risk was at Level Three with some superb conditions.
In Australia some snow has been falling too.
The marketing manager for Thredbo resort, Caroline Brauer, says the school holidays have experienced excellent snow conditions – with more expected.
She said up to 30cms of snow is expected in the coming days.
“Which is perfect timing to take us into July and August,” she told Sky News Australia.
“We’ve seen our busiest school holiday period yet.”
At Perisher in Australia there are also good conditions reported.
Further south in the state of Victoria there was more snow mid-week.

There is also skiing and snowboarding currently on offer in South America.
The main ski areas in Argentina and Chile are now open for their 2022 season.
There have been some decent conditions so far and for some it’s the first time they have been open since 2019 as Covid-19 spread.
